Our goals

1. Embed sustainability education across the curriculum

2. Integrate sustainability into SMU co-curriculum

What we have done

  • Developed a Sustainability Education @ SMU framework and incorporated the understanding of sustainability into SMU's Graduate Learning Outcomes.

  • Developed a sustainability graduation requirement for undergraduates that is aligned to the Sustainability Education @ SMU framework.

  • Launched a “Sustainability and Sustainable Development” module as part of the mandatory Community Service Units to enable all UG students to acquire foundational knowledge.

  • Incorporated 39 contact hours of sustainability focused teaching and learning within the disciplinary core curriculum in 4 schools - College of Integrative Studies, School of Accountancy, Lee Kong Chian School of Business, and School of Economics.

  • Launched 2 sustainability focused second majors - Sustainable Management, offered by the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, and Sustainable Societies, offered by the School of Social Sciences.

  • Launched the Master of Sustainability.

  • Developed sustainability focused workshops for PhD students.

  • Launched the SMU Pathfinders Overseas Sustainability Changemaker Programme.

  • Organised the SMU Sustainability Forum and Sustainability Firechat series with student leaders.

  • Established the SMC Student Sustainability Awards.
