Co-curriculum
We provide students with the opportunities to acquire unique and valuable learning experiences in the real-world application of sustainability concepts through varied co-curricular activities.
Community Service
SMU takes pride in preparing students to be responsible citizens who demonstrate leadership and integrity where they live and work. Community Service has been an integral part of SMU's DNA since our university's inception in 2000 and is a graduation requirement. All undergraduates are required to complete a minimum of 80 hours of community service and demonstrate how their project contributes to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals.
SMU Pathfinders Sustainability Changemakers Overseas Programme
The SMU Pathfinders Sustainability Changemakers Overseas Programme is a sustainability-focused student development programme that comprises a series of curated experiential platforms focusing on the three inter-related domains of the “Self”, “Self and Team” and “Self and the Community” for SMU undergraduates.
Internship
SMU was the first local University to introduce mandatory internships of 10 weeks as part of its degree requirement for all undergraduate students. The average SMU student completes between 2 to 6 internships during their degree programme. Connect with the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre to find out more about about sustainability focused internship and career opportunities as well as career guidance support.
SMU Innovation Academy
The Innovation Academy offers the SMU Entrepreneur Experience, developing the next generation of entrepreneurs through immersive educational programmes, mentorship, and incubation. There are opportunities for students to learn about sustainability challenges and apply sustainability thinking depending on the innovation and entrepreneurial journey they choose.
