Strategy 1 - Cultivate a Greener University

On its City Campus, SMU’s green journey included improving energy and water efficiency as well as other initiatives which led to various Green Mark Certifications, International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Singapore Standards (SS).

2022 Received funding from Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment SG-Eco Fund for a waste management project “A Sustainable City Campus – Driving Waste to Zero” . Eliminated use of single-use plastic carrier in all SMU F&B and retail stores since April 2022 . Increased our solar farm design output to 1.98 MWp with a reduction in annual energy consumption of approximately 11.9%.  Introduced more Electric Vehicle charging facilities in all carparks in alignment to Singapore Green Plan 2030.  SGBC-BCA Leadership in Sustainability Awards 2022:  Business Leadership in Sustainability – Transformation Award Category – Singapore Management UniversityBuilding Project Leadership in Sustainability – Carbon Performance Award Category – SMU Connexion  2021 Power generated by our solar farm has increase to a designed output of 1.47 MWp with an reduction in annual energy consumption of approximately 8.8%.  SMU Connexion is the first project in Singapore to obtain WELL Pre-certification.    Being recognised for efforts and achievements by SMU in improving energy efficiency, SMU was awarded the Energy Efficiency National Partnership Award for the Best Energy Efficiency Practices in the Public Sector category .
